*This workshop is held on the following day of JF/BAJS PhD Workshop 2025 ‘Career Development in Japanese Studies’. The JF/BAJS PhD Workshop participants are also welcome to attend.
このワークショップでは、日本語の文章を別の言い回しに変えるタスクを通して、日本語教師が教室で行う多読活動のスキルアップを図ることをねらっております。また、本活動は、日本語非母語話者が多いであろうJF/BAJS PhDワークショップ参加者にとって、日本語のブラッシュアップにつながり、自分の研究を日本語でわかりやすく他者に説明するために必要な「リライト力」を向上させる良い機会となりうると考えております。
This extensive reading workshop aims to enhance teachers' skills in conducting these activities through tasks that involve rephrasing Japanese texts. This also offers JF/BAJS PhD workshop participants, many of whom may be non-native speakers, an opportunity to improve their Japanese and enhance their "rewrite skills" necessary for clearly explaining their research.
ワークショップ内容の説明 (About the workshop)
第二言語や外国語学習において多読を取り入れることは、英語教育だけでなく日本語教育においても効果的であると注目されて久しいです。しかし、授業や学習に実際に活用するには、準備や工夫が必要です。本ワークショップでは、多読を活用した授業や教材作成の経験を持つ日本語教師が、多読のいろはを解説します。また、実際に多読用の読み物をリライトしながら、教材作成のコツを学びます。多読の魅力を体験し、学習者の主体性を育む方法を一緒に探ってみませんか。
Extensive reading has long been recognised as an effective approach in both second and foreign language learning, particularly in English and Japanese education. However, integrating extensive reading into lessons or self-study successfully requires careful preparation and creativity. In this workshop, participants will be introduced to the fundamentals of this approach by an experienced Japanese language teacher with expertise in extensive reading and material creation. You will have the opportunity to put your hands on revising existing reading materials for extensive reading and learn practical tips for creating engaging content. Discover the benefits of extensive reading and explore strategies to foster learner autonomy.
講師略歴 (About the instructor)
2018年6月よりエディンバラ在住。現在、フリーランスで非日本語話者の子どもや成人を対象に日本語を教える。それ以前は、日本国内の大学・大学院・専門学校・日本語学校・社会人スクール・国際交流協会等で日本語教育や日本語教師養成に長らく携わる。元日本留学試験日本語専門員。修士（文学）。
Based in Edinburgh since June 2018, Ms Kobayashi-Prior has been working as a freelance Japanese language teacher for non-Japanese-speaking children and adults. Previously, she was extensively involved in Japanese language education and teacher training at universities, postgraduate programmes, vocational schools, Japanese language schools, evening classes, and international exchange organisations across Japan. She is a former specialist in Japanese language for the Examination for Japanese University Admission for International Students (EJU). MA in literature.
